The Prosecution of Mr.Hyde and Dr.Jekyll

I am for the prosecution of  Edward Hyde and Henry Jekyll. To begin with, there is proof stating that he murdered this man. A maid had witnessed him beating the man cruelly to his death.  Then Mr. Utterson investigated the house of Hyde and found the other half of the weapon to which the man was murdered by. Also after Mr. Utterson went to Hyde's house, Mr. Hyde was no where to be found. This all shows that Mr. Hyde murdered the man and should be punished. Although Mr. Hyde was the person who committed the crime, it wasn't entirly his fault. Remember Dr. Henry Jekyll was the one who created Mr. Hyde for one purpose. And his purpose was to do evil and not get blamed for it. If Dr. Jekyll didn't want to do bad in the first place then he would not be in this situation. Dr. Jekyll is just as fault with as Mr. Hyde. The Doctor knew that by creating Mr. Hyde there would be some negatives. So in my opinion Mr.Hyde/ Dr. Jekyll should be put in jail for their wrong doings.

  1. I think you have a great start to your essay! I like that you thought about first relaying the details of the murder including the evidence and witnesses (try to be as specific as possible when telling these details). I also like that you were thinking of Dr. Jekyll's fault and full knowledge of the consequences of his actions (again try to pull some specific quotes to support this maybe from Jekyll's Full Statement of the Case). Overall I feel that you need to consider using more formal persuasive language. Try watching some courtroom drama TV or youtube clips from these types of shows to catch some of the typical language use in a courtroom. For example, Jekyll's knowledge of the dangers in creating Hyde is termed negligence in a courtroom. Also, be sure to have a closing statement that is thought provoking and captivating, for it is your final chance at making an impact on the jury. Think about what the jury (Victorian citizens) would care most about. What about their morals/values would be threatened by letting Hyde go? Best of luck.
